In the summer of 1975 Imaizumi Sensei held the first class at the newly formed New York Ki Society. 14 years later he resigned from the Ki Society and on October 1, 1988 he founded Shin-Budo Kai. It was within this, his own organization, that his teaching and curriculum grew exponentially. Exactly 34 years after that, on October 1 2022, we were present at his Intai, a ceremony held at our current dojo on West 40th Street at which he officially retired from teaching altogether. Now, 50 years after Imaizumi Sensei held his first class in New York City, Shin-Budo Kai NYC will be closing its doors.
